Election in Ukraine to become probation for EU, says European MP
Interfax-Ukraine - 5 September 2009
Future presidential election in Ukraine would become a probation for the European Union (EU), which should grant Russia's non-interference in the election using foreign policy instruments, says European MP Charles Tannock in his article in the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia (Mirror Weekly) newspaper.
"Presidential election in Ukraine in January 2010 would become another serious probation for the European Union, which is looking for a way of developing relations with Russia. The EU should send a clear warning to Moscow that any interference in democratic processes in such sovereign and independent states as Ukraine would lead to serious after-effects," he said.
Tannock said that the European Union should show more coordinated policy in relations with Russia and learn to soberly evaluate Russian political goals.
